Oh, I apologize for offending you your highandmightyness, I offer my complete and unending apologies. I deeply regret any slander my metaphor may have caused to you, or your family, or your family's family. I am profoundly sorry, and will undertake never to mention sparkles in your presence at anytime in the near or distant future.

Sparkles fix a LOT and it's not IGNORANT to think so. If you're SMART enough to ask for sparkling soda, then you'll also be SMART enough to ask for separate glasses...no mess if your INTELLIGENT enough. In the metaphor of italian soda, a glassfull of the mixed syrups of life issues is intolerable at once or at very least extremely unpleasant...but one by one, swimming in sparkles, they are tolerable. Sparkling soda is the time and peace of mind, past experiences and knowledge that give us a foothold on the problem we are trying to swallow. Take your life as straight syrup all at once and you're going to get an ulcer and rotten teeth...and a pissy fucking attitude due to both. Nobody likes a person who gave themselves and ulcer and cavities and then cries about it.
It may be a hell of a lot more to swallow, but it's easier to do so, gives you time to think about what you're drinking , won't rott your teeth, and won't give you an ulcer...in turn making YOU easier to deal with instead of adding to someone else's glass of nasty sticky syrup becaues you refuse to "sparkle up" your own.
*passes a soda spritzer* looks like you NEED it.

i think we are witnessing the dichodomy of teen angst vs adult issues here.
Sparkles are just as inherantly good as all the other things that we are putting in that glass.
since you are going to have all those "flavors" to deal with, why not choose HOW you deal with them; sparkles, small sips, dumping out some of the syrup before it makes it to the glass, etc?
